One of the most important roles I play as a wedding planner is that of a consultant. I spend a significant amount of time helping couples avoid the common pitfalls of planning a wedding.

Here are several of the common ones . . .

Not setting priorities early
Not developing a solid planning strategy and timeline
Failing to maintain a detailed budget and track expenditures
Selecting vendors based on price alone
Not creating contingency plans for inclement weather and other potential obstacles
Attempting to coordinate the wedding day themselves
Taking on too many D.I.Y. (do it yourself) projects
Inviting too many guests
Missing opportunities to personalize the event details and "wow" the guest
Not hiring a videographer to capture the big day
